MUSIC means everything to me, and I have started to notice a little pattern with the guys that I'm attracted to lately - they are all musicians.
The other night I was pleased to discover a new band that I hadn't seen before and, more importantly, a new crush.
The lead singer was simply beautiful. As he sang about heartache and pining for love, with every chord he strummed, I fell more and more in love.
OK, so maybe love is a bit strong, but I certainly was moved. Yes, I admit this muso was incredibly cute but there's something extra that comes with being a musician, a bonus of attractiveness that is undeniable.
A girlfriend of mine said listening to a man sing about love and emotions gives her hope men really feel strongly about these things.
She said knowing there are some men who are in touch with their emotions and who can write from the heart helps her as a single girl to know not all men are emotionally stunted.
I must agree. It is nice to see these musos have an appreciation of the words behind a song, and this somehow makes me more optimistic about relationships.
The musical crush is an interesting one, as often it doesn't matter if the musician in question is good looking or not.
Newton Faulkner, for example, is not an attractive man with his messy ranga dreads but when he sings and plays tricks on his guitar, pretty much every girl in the audience melts and can't help but watch those fingers of his and think "wow''.
For me, a music fanatic and wannabe musician, I think admiration for their talent has a lot to do with the extra heart strings that are plucked when I see a cute performer on stage.
I have often fantasised about getting up on stage and singing a harmony next to one of my musical crushes, tapping a tambourine in time, and impressing him with my (imaginary) musical ability.
Unfortunately, my musical talents are limited to singing in the shower and playing recorder (thanks to my year 3 teacher).
So, while I might not be able to join in, I'm fairly sure my musical crushes will continue for as long as songs are written and guitars are being strummed.
You never know, if I keep hanging out at gigs, one of these days maybe a hot musician will notice me tapping my feet in the corner and will write a song just for me.
What's your ''type''?
