THE brightest stars of Sutherland Shire's tourism industry were honoured at the third annual Shire Tourism Awards.
More than 100 people attended the gala dinner and awards, which this year attracted 37 entries across seven categories.
Sutherland Shire Mayor Lorraine Kelly said the area was home to a strong, diverse and vibrant tourism sector.
"Tourist operators here are doing a great job working together, running successful businesses and providing a fantastic experience for visitors to the region,'' she said.
"Staging the awards is just one way to recognise excellence within the local tourism industry and is another way that council has been working to support local businesses which provide all-important employment in our shire.''
This year's awards ceremony was held at the Gatewood Restaurant at Loftus TAFE.
The ceremony was organised by events management students and the food and beverages were served by the hospitality students.
Media students from Gymea campus also developed a DVD presentation shown on the night.
