SPRING racing carnival has arrived and the girls from the south sure have given those eastern suburbs princesses some tough competition in the style stakes.
First it was Clare Rowe from Hurstville who took the crown earlier this year, and now Sutherland Shire's own Teneale Geddes and Elizabeth Clark have come on the scene.
Miss Geddes, 28, of Illawong, stole the show at the Myer Fashions on the Field competition last Saturday, September 13.
As the winner of the Mad About The Hat Day at Rosehill Gardens racecourse, Miss Geddes was all class and charm. She wore a 1960s vintage pastel floral Elizabeth Arden dress, turquoise peep-toe high-heels, pearl earrings and a wide-brimmed pale pink hat, both designed by milliner Sandy Bizys.
"I went into it just for a bit of fun,'' Miss Geddes said.
"I think we shire girls did well on the day because we have a pretty laid-back attitude to things while still make the effort to look our best.''
The blonde glamour girl will represent NSW in the national finals at the Melbourne Cup in November.
The runner-up was Elizabeth Clark, 23, of Kangaroo Point, who wore a cream and black puffy dress with a matching black patent belt and shoes.
Her black rose-featured hat was custom-made by Double Bay milliner Nerida Winter.
It was second-time lucky for Miss Clark, who won the milliner's award at Randwick Races last year.
Ms Clark, a public relations consultant who survived a traumatic accident that left her in a coma after she was hit by a drunk driver in 2006, enjoyed the experience.
"Shire girls stood out on the day,'' she said. "It seems we're almost taking over.''
