MORE than 60 businesswomen gathered to network and listen to expert speakers at a recent women in business seminar.
Organised by bank managers from Westpac Kogarah and Rockdale branches, the event was an opportunity for small to medium business owners to discuss topical issues.
Judy Feeney, from Feeney Lawyers at Brighton-le-Sands, spoke about the importance of having affairs in order in which she referred to as the ``gone to God files''.
Sally Herman, general manager of corporate affairs and sustainability at Westpac, said treading lightly and promoting responsibility was a cornerstone of good business practice.
"The things we do today make a difference to tomorrow,'' she said.
Ms Herman also acknowledged the importance of small- to medium-sized businesses which she said made up to 95 per cent of the economy.
"They are the backbone of our economy,'' she said.
Superintendent Helen Begg, of St George local area command, discussed the recent attacks on international students.
She said the police were working to keep students, and everyone in the wider community, safe.
David Ryan, manager of the Rockdale branch, said the seminar was a success and he hoped to make it an annual event.
"We're all about being local,'' he said.
