Bloodstains marked spot

09 Feb, 2012 07:00 AM
POLICE say there are no indications of bikie or drug-related links to the stabbing of a an Allawah man, 25, at Hurstville on Saturday night.

Hurstville police Detective Inspector Terry O'Neill said the man was stabbed several times after leaving a Forest Road restaurant with friends, and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

The man had been celebrating a birthday and told police he did not know his attackers.

Officers released one man arrested at the scene, pending further investigations.

Witnesses told police they saw a group of up to 10 men fighting on Macmahon Street, close to the intersection of Park Road.

Bloodstains were found on the footpath where the fight allegedly occurred.

Police said they were unsure if a second assault occurred after they found a blood trail leading up Woodville Street to Park Road.

"There were large amounts at both locations, and we don't think [the victim] could have walked that far," Detective Inspector O'Neill said.

"There is nothing to indicate links to drugs or bikies at this stage."

Police only identified the victim after he presented himself to St George Hospital with friends.

Detective Inspector O'Neill said it was unclear what had happened or if there had been two separate assaults.

Police planned speak to the victim in hospital on Monday.

"Hurstville detectives are seeking assistance from anyone who might have been on Forest Road, Woodville Street, Macmahon Street or Park road, Hurstville about 10pm on Saturday," he said.
