 Disqualified for a year

Disqualified for a year

12 Feb, 2012 08:00 AM
A ROCKDALE removalist with L plates who took off in the vehicle belonging to his boss after calling in sick has been given 17 months' jail.

A friend of the boss saw the vehicle travelling all over the road and told police she spoke to John Greig, 43, who appeared drunk as he drove between Helensburgh and Waterfall last August.

About four hours later Greig attended Kogarah Local Court where police said he seemed intoxicated. Later that day he reversed onto the wrong side of the road and into the rear of another vehicle in Rockdale.

The boss confirmed Greig was the only other person with keys to his vehicle and he had not given him permission to drive any of his vehicles.

Less than a fortnight later Greig handed himself in to police. His jail term was backdated to September with a non-parole period of six months, which could see him being released in March.

He was disqualified for a year and given a bond on the charge of driving for being unlicensed for the class of vehicle.

He was also given bonds for being a learner not accompanied by a driver, not giving particulars to the owner of damaged property and not reversing a vehicle safely.
