WITH strong ambitions in place, new university students are preparing to take their first steps into higher education.
Inaburra High School graduate Mitchell Parsons, 18, was lucky to nab a spot in his preferred course.
Thanks to his ATAR of 90.65, he got into a bachelor of psychology course at the University of Western Sydney. He also received an academic excellence scholarship.
The Menai student said he was keen to work with troubled teenagers.
"I became interested in psychology about two years ago when I volunteered in Cairns on a mission program that encouraged Aboriginal youth to continue their education," he said.
"We did workshops and activities; there are a lot of jobs in the Northern Territory in that field.
"But I'm also interesting in school counselling."
The University of Western Sydney made 11,334 offers this year — the highest of all NSW universities.
