REGULARS at Sutherland Acoustic know performer Gwyn Cleeves.
Cleeves has been a regular spot performer since the days when Sutherland Acoustic was called Sutherland Folk Club.
Every now and then he takes on more than a floor spot, which allows him to treat the audience to his wider repertoire, which includes some traditional Welsh songs.
Growing up with a mother from Wales meant that Welsh choir music and folk music was as much a part of his life as jazz greats such as Fats Waller and 1960s pop.
Being in a bush band in the 1970s extended his repertoire even further.
So a performance by Gwyn Cleeves, who is parks and waterways manager at Sutherland Shire Council in his regular day job, is likely to be very diverse.
He has a beautiful voice and a polished gentle guitar strumming.
Cleeves will share the spotlight with New York Public Library, a Sydney band that has been delighting audiences for at least three decades with its own blend of bluegrass, folk, country and jazz, along with three-part harmonies and spontaneous humour.
They are always popular.
The next Sutherland Acoustic night is on Thursday, October 8, at Sutherland District Trade Union Club (Tradies), Kingsway, Gymea.
Doors open at 7.30pm.
The cost is $15/$10.
