FINDING a winner on Melbourne Cup day is not always easy but here is a tip to help you find a venue for your Melbourne Cup lunch: the St George Motor Boat Club in Sans Souci.
With its own TAB and a choice of lunch in either the club's Captain's Grill restaurant or Waterfront function room and if you take your eyes away from the big screen television sets superb water views, the St George Motor Boat Club is often booked out on cup day, so early bookings are advised.
In the Captain's Grill a three-course menu has been selected by executive chef Todd Finigan offering a choice of three entrees, four mains and three desserts for a set price of $38.
Entrees include garlic prawns with green pea and mint sauce, and a roast duck salad with lime and coriander.
Roast corn-fed chicken and grilled barramundi fillet are among the main choices, as well as lobster mornay. Desserts are rum raison panna cotta with roast pear, strawberry cheesecake with chocolate sauce, and a Cucina gelato selection.
A glamorous lunch party is being organised for the Waterfront Room where a three-course meal will also be served, beginning with an entree of prawn salad with avocado and lime cream.
The choice of main meals are grilled Atlantic salmon with honey soy glaze, and supreme of chicken on potato bacon roesti. Chocolate lovers can look forward to a trio of chocolate desserts on the one plate!
The cost is $63 a person.
