BEING a chorus and a regular winner of choir awards, one could be excused for thinking that Endeavour Harmony Chorus just stood still and sang choir-type songs.
Not so. The chorus is now branching into musical comedy.
Just Desserts, a musical comedy by Jan Rothnie and Jan Rienecker, is about the female staff and the customers of the Super Saver Department Store.
The coveted Dairy Queen title is up for grabs and big, bossy Betina, the current holder of the title and tyrannical leader of the diabolical Dairy Mall Mob, has discovered that she has competition from angelic Jackie Black, the lovely leader of the charming Checkout Chicks.
Behind the ``have-a-nice-day'' facade, the battle lines are drawn.
Endeavour Harmony Chorus has an impressive list of credits, including finalists in the ABC Choir of the Year Award in 2006 and first places in the John Lamble Community Choir Award in 2005 and 2007.
The women represented Australia at the Sweet Adeline International Competition in Calgary, Canada in 2007, and contributed to the vocals in the Oscar Award-winning movie Happy Feet.
In the past 12 months the choir has performed with Sutherland Shire Brass, Randwick Philharmonic, Warringah Concert Brass, NSW Police Band, and for events for Sutherland Shire and Kogarah councils. This is the choir's first foray into the realm of a full-scale musical production.
Just Desserts will be performed at Sylvania Heights Youth and Community Centre this Saturday, October 25, at 7.30pm and this Sunday, October 26, at 2pm.
