UK COMEDY writer Eric Chappell has had world audiences chuckling over television series such as Only When I Laugh, Haggard, Rising Damp and, in 1988, the telemovie Natural Causes starring George Cole and Prunella Scales.
Now Natural Causes can be seen on stage after being chosen to open Sutherland Theatre Company's 2010 season which began last Sunday.
The opening night audience found plenty to laugh at in this production directed by Colleen Boyle.
The shire's Natural Causes cast includes Val McMullan, Berni Eather, Brian May, Scott Brawley and Rob White in the George Cole role as Vincent.
Natural Causes is a farce on the subject of euthanasia in which Vincent, representing a group called Exodus which is in favour of assisted suicides, arrives at a country home, where he believes his role is to assist the homeowner's wife to end her life.
However, Vincent becomes suspicious when he finds the suicide note is unsigned and the husband seems to be very close to his glamorous secretary.
