Light, bright for big race

THE temperature was up, the excitement levels high, and the style stakes were at their spring best during Melbourne Cup celebrations in Sutherland Shire.

Those lucky enough to have the Tuesday off work joined the racing fever and were dressed in their trackside attire with a touch of suburbia thrown in.

Blake and Allie Thompson of Menai were enjoying a drink or two at Northies Hotel, Cronulla one of the most popular venues in the beachside region for the big race that stops the nation.

The brother and sister duo were also celebrating Blake's 19th birthday on the same day. Both said their choice of fashion was as simple as keeping it "light and bright''.

Allie, 21, wore a black and white shift dress with black pumps and a matching beige fascinator.

She accessorised with a black clutch purse and pearls. "I've gone for the Audrey Hepburn look very elegant and classy,'' Allie said.

Blake wore snakeskin slip-on shoes, pinstripe suit pants, and a classic collared shirt with a silver wristband and matching engraved belt. "I guess I just threw on whatever looks good,'' Blake said.
