ONCE again, Sutherland Shire singers have performed exceptionally at the McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge.
The magnificent Endeavour Harmony Chorus won the folk/popular/show choir event and featured in the final round of the John Lamble Australasian Open Choral Championship.
Timothy Moxey of Sutherland and Amy Walton of Engadine have qualified for the final of the Big Mac Contemporary Singer of the Year contest, won last year by Vanessa Powell of Kareela.
Having competed in this section against Vanessa last year, Amy, 17, is taking a second crack at the title.
She hopes to become a rock star one day, but in the meantime is studying a diploma of music at TAFE and experimenting with various musical forms.
She plays drums, bass, mandolin and keyboards and has started writing songs.
Timothy Moxey comes from a musical family. He grew up singing with church groups and now sings with the Wesley Institute Choir and is completing a bachelor of music degree as a distance student with Central Queensland University.
Timothy also writes much of his own material and teaches singing and guitar in western Sydney.
The Contemporary Singer of the Year final will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, July 16, at Petersham RSL Club. Bookings: 9261 8366.
