And now...something for the romantics

08 Feb, 2010 04:00 AM
WITH Valentine's Day around the corner, Betty O'Brien of Caringbah has just one wish.

To find the owner of a diamond ring she found seven months ago, underneath a bench outside Caringbah RSL.

The retired grandmother has been searching high and low to find the owner, contacting police, making announcements at businesses in the area and even placing an advertisement in the Leader.

"I'm at my wits end and I can't think of anything else to do,'' Mrs O'Brien said. "All I can do is spread the word to friends, families and new faces I come across.''

With a name inscribed inside the ring, there's no chance of Mrs O'Brien giving it away to the wrong owner. "It worries me that some poor lady is heartbroken about losing her ring, while it just sits on my dresser at home,'' she said.

Mrs O'Brien said she wanted to "reunite the ring with its rightful owner''.

I'm afraid I can't offer any information, but it's a wonderful story, and good on Mrs O'Brien for going to such lengths to find the owner. Please let us know if the story helps track he down!
