A NINE-year-old girl in year 4 at St Patrick's Primary School, Sutherland, is a NSW finalist in an art competition that encourages children to think about the meaning of giving during Christmas.
Nathlene Ng won her category in the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal contest called The Art Of Giving.
She is one of two winners from NSW and will now compete for the national prize against 15 other finalists.
The competition is inspired by the Wishing Tree Appeal, which will be launched next week.
The entrants had to create works of art that epitomised what giving meant to them.
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia's largest Christmas gift appeal, and has distributed more than 4.5 million gifts to families in need for more than 20 years.
Wishing trees are in every Kmart store in the lead- up to the festive season.
People can leave there their gifts, which will be distributed by the appeal's charity partners, which include the Salvation Army, to people who would otherwise go without a Christmas present.
Nathlene won $2500 for her school and a Nintendo DS Lite.
She has a chance of winning a further $10,000 for her school if she becomes the national winner.
Three years ago, Nathlene won a Mother's Day contest organised by The Sun- Herald.
