Art's drawn from life

11 Feb, 2012 05:00 PM
Sutherland Shire artist Kenneth B Harrison is holding an exhibition of his line drawings and paintings at Sutherland Library this month.

While he has a studio at Quest Cottage, Yowie Bay, Mr Harrison is well known by many for drawing in many coffee shops around the shire.

He specialises in drawing and painting personal portraits of people, mostly from photographs.

Included in his latest exhibition are black and white line drawings of cricket legend Glenn McGrath (pictured above), Aboriginal activist Patrick Dodson and Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage.

There is also a drawing of the Girl With Green Eyes, based on the famous photograph of the girl from Afghanistan.

Also featured is a watercolour painting of Olympic champion Cathy Freeman, with the title, Winning Smile, and a bright watercolour painting called Bird in Paradise.

All the works are for sale.

Mr Harrison attends the Monday life drawing classes at Hazelhurst Gallery conducted by the Continuum Art Society and is a member of the Friends of Hazelhurst group which supports the work of the Hazelhurst Gallery and manages the Wall of Art at the library.
