TO ENCOURAGE students to draw on and expand their literacy skills, an award-winning author came to Engadine this month.
Children's fiction writer Sandy Fussell regularly visits schools throughout Australia to share her passion for narrative with students.
Ms Fussell, who has been writing books for two years, spoke to the students from Engadine High School and their surrounding partner schools, as part of a ``Literacy Linkages'' event.
This is a program that aims to bring together primary and high schools students to give them the opportunity to workshop creative writing ideas and collaborate with each other in a shared environment.
Ms Fussell said the internet was becoming a greater tool for students who wanted to expand their knowledge about narrative.
``Technology is enabling them to use more resources and it gives them greater access to information online,'' Ms Fussell said.
Her latest book, Jaguar Warrior, is available at bookstores throughout Australia.
Her previous book, Polar Boy, was shortlisted for the
2009 Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year for younger readers and was selected as the primary school text for National Reading Day the same year.
