THE school year has only just begun, but All Starz Performing Arts at Peakhurst has already scored a prestigious title — Dancer of the Year at the Showcase national dance championships on the Gold Coast.
Emily Seymour, 14, was the talented young pupil who beat more than 60 competitors from around Australia in the pre-teen category last month.
The dancer, who previously won the award when she was 10 in 2008, took over the reigns from fellow All Starz Performing Arts student Gemma Antidormi, 15, who received the title last year.
Emily will now head to Canada in May to compete in the next international round.
It was a great start for the 2011 best dance studio winner in the St George Leader Business Awards which has just kicked off its 10th year.
"We are looking forward to 2012," studio director Belinda Agostino said.
"All Starz has an amazing line-up of teachers, and of course we plan on doing lots of fun stuff to celebrate this special year."
The school teaches a variety of classes in its five-studio complex including classical ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, music theatre and singing.
Students have danced as junior associates with the Australian Ballet School, music theatre productions such as Billy Elliot and in professional ballets at the Sydney Opera House.
