TWO tries while Daniel Vidot sat in the sin-bin saw North Queensland overcome St George Illawarra 32-22 at WIN Stadium tonight.
Just 9,000 fans watched on as the Cowboys ended the Dragons hopes of a finals finish.
Vidot reacted angrily and threw a rapid fire of punches after an exchange between teammate Matt Cooper and Cowboys enforcer James Tamou in the 57th minute with the Dragons leading by four.
He was joined in the sin-bin by former Dragons prop Ricky Thorby but with 12 versus 12, North Queensland pounced through the brilliance of quick men Jonathan Thurston and Matt Bowen to pile on 12 unanswered points and gain an unbeatable lead.
“We had opportunities to win the game,” Dragons coach Steve Price said.
“They were there to be beaten.
The Dragons now prepare for their final home game against NZ Warriors at WIN Stadium on Saturday.
