WHEN it comes to giving young prospective employees a helping hand, Francis Vella prefers to keep it simple.
As the founder of his Miranda-based business, Australian Youthstart, he assists in preparing job-seekers for the workforce.
"I have a lot of concern for youth unemployment,'' Mr Vella said.
"Up to 30percent of first-year undergraduate university students change or opt out of their course, because I think they follow their developed rather than their natural talents.
"That misalignment can make it difficult for enthusiasm levels to be sustained and may eventually lead to job loss.''
By conducting an individual assessment of a student's "gifts'', Mr Vella and his team visit high schools across Sydney and hold workshops for student in years 10 to 12.
Mr Vella said the aim was to work with youth to uncover and align their natural talents to help them when they make decisions about tertiary study or employment.
His top job tips include networking and contacting employers for available positions, having a professional email address and phone message greeting and asking questions at an interview.
