Gazebo will go as part of crime plan

18 Jul, 2008 05:00 AM
SUTHERLAND Council will receive $50,000 from the State Government to implement a crime prevention plan for Woronora Heights.

NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos announced the funding and met Heathcote MP Paul McLeay and Mayor David Redmond on Monday during a visit to the area.

``The council has conducted extensive community consultation and put together a comprehensive strategy to reduce crime in Sutherland Shire,'' he said.

``The plan sets out the steps that need to be taken to prevent crime in public areas, making them safer for local residents.''

A council spokesman said the plan identified several aims, including increasing safety in public areas, reducing alcohol-related crime and involving the community in crime prevention activities.

As part of the plan, the council will remove the gazebo at Woronora Heights oval and use improved lighting and restricted access to control under-age drinking.

The plan will also focus on preventing graffiti and vandalism and establish a youth outreach program.
