A GROUP of St George and Sutherland Shire firefighters will ride from Campbelltown to Wagga Wagga to raise money for young burns victims.
"There are 24 all up with about 12 from the shire,'' said Scott Hanley of Gymea Bay.
He said many of the firefighters taking part were based at stations in the region, including Cronulla, Miranda, Engadine and Hurstville.
Mr Hanley said the group would set off from Campbelltown fire station next Tuesday.
He said that after the ride, they would hand over a cheque to the burns unit of Sydney Children's Hospital at Westmead. "We've got all our major sponsors and we're going pretty well,'' Mr Hanley said.
"All the riders have raised money.''
The firefighters expect to take four days to complete the 400-kilometre trip to Wagga Wagga via Wollongong and Goulburn.
They will stop at schools along the way to give fire safety talks.
"We raise money and we raise fire awareness,'' Mr Hanley said. "This is the fifth year and we're hoping to break $150,000 raised for the five years. We should go pretty close.''
