WORKERS duplicating the Cronulla rail line have volunteered their time and expertise to help keep nearby Sylvanvale Foundations Sutherland Activities Centre on track.
The foundation provides a community and centre-based program for adults with a disability and the centre is next to work under way as part of the duplication project, which is being managed by the Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation on behalf of the State Government through the Cronulla Rail Line Alliance.
Manager William Hart said volunteer work at the centre would see broken bathroom tiles replaced and grouted, a new greenhouse and garden beds built at the community garden, drainage fixed and a driveway repaired.
"Bathroom repairs have already begun and the other initiatives will be rolled out in coming months,'' Mr Hart said.
"We are bringing in specific skills and experience to support a near neighbour of our site office in Rawson Avenue.
"Sylvanvale is a deserving organisation that provides vital support to the disabled, and were pleased to be able to help.
"We appreciate the patience, support and cooperation of the community during delivery of this important infrastructure project.''
Sutherland Activity Centre site manager Sandra Wade said the organisation was grateful for the helping hand.
"We were excited when approached by the alliance with its offer to undertake projects that would improve the quality of service we provide to our service participants,'' she said.
"Upgrading our community garden house by building a new greenhouse and garden beds will give our participants the chance to expand their skills and a rewarding experience of working outdoors in the garden.''
