FORTY years ago, John Lennon and his new bride Yoko Ono made international headlines by spending a week in bed at the Amsterdam Hilton hotel, talking about peace all day.
The famed bed-in was organised by the couple to protest the Vietnam War, and promote world peace.
Dylan Wright, 16, of Gymea, is having a "bed-out'' for 10 days to mark the 40th anniversary, and raise money for 10 charities.
He started sleeping outside his house yesterday, and will forego red meat, electricity and
creature comforts.
Dylan has raised money for various charities over the years, inspired by personal experience.
"When I was eight, my mum was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, so I started doing the MS read-a-thon,'' Dylan said. Since then he has continued giving to charities, busking to raise money, or donating his time to sing at hospitals.
Five of his friends will keep him company throughout the 10 days to make sure he doesn't get too bored.
"We all love Dylan,'' Ellen Scott, 15, said.
Brodie Cameron, 15, said: "He is what keeps us going.''
