LESBIAN couples will be able to list both their names as mothers on their children's birth certificates thanks to new laws passed through Parliament.
The new laws, which came into effect on Monday, give both mothers equal rights as parents. However, the laws only apply to children conceived through artificial fertilisation who are living with parents currently in a lesbian de facto relationship.
The Registery of Births, Deaths and Marriages has received 100 inquiries about the new birth certificates.
