IT would not even cover the cost of a takeaway coffee, but that will be the least of Madeleine Whitby's worries when she tackles a hunger challenge in the first week of August.
The Barden Ridge youth will spend just $2 a day for five days in support of children living in extreme poverty. She will eat basic food including rice and pasta, as part of the Live Below The Line campaign, which is a joint venture between the Oaktree Foundation and the Global Poverty Project.
"I think it will be a struggle but I'll survive,'' Ms Whitby, 18, said. "I'm used to it, having done the 40 Hour Famine before. It's inspiring to create change.''
No stranger to volunteer and charity work, Ms Whitby previously took part in the "Make Poverty History'' road trip in April this year, joining other young Australians on an awareness tour across NSW.
The student, who is studying media, communications and international studies at the University of Wollongong, said she wanted to raise money for education programs to combat global poverty.
