WHEN Raquel Bosustow gave birth prematurely seven years ago, she sent her mother to a bookshop, only to have her return empty handed.
Following the birth of a second premature child, Mrs Bosustow, of Gymea Bay, vowed to one day write a book to offer hope to other mothers who experience a "premmie'' birth.
Ms Bosustow, who is married to former Sharks and St George rugby league player Scott Krywulycz, said writing Miracle Beginnings using journals she kept following the births had proven therapeutic.
She enjoyed a trouble-free first pregnancy when, at 30 weeks, she developed pre-eclampsia a condition that is life-threatening to mother and child.
She spent four weeks in hospital before her placenta began breaking down, resulting in an emergency caesarean. Baby Hanna, was born six weeks early, weighing 1.9kilograms, and was placed in a humidicrib in the special care unit at Hurstville Community Private Hospital.
Hanna was in hospital for four weeks, limiting their chance to bond.
With no lasting effects from the pre-eclampsia and assurance there was only a 15per cent chance of the condition recurring, the couple decided to have another baby.
She was again hospitalised at 30 weeks after being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.When tests showed the baby had stopped growing, Kye was delivered by emergency caesarean eight weeks early, weighing 1.3 kilograms and suffering serious health problems.
Ms Bosustow developed postnatal depression and a post-traumatic stress condition and felt "angry, guilty and robbed'' that her pregnancies did not go to plan.
She recovered and went on to have a third child, Lukas, who was born almost full term, weighing a healthy 3.5kilograms.
"The book is to give people hope and to know there is light at the end of the tunnel,'' she said.
