ADAM McTackett, 27, of Caringbah and his 50 "Team Macdog'' teammates are already looking for next year's theme for the Sydney to the Gong bike ride for MS.
Mr McTackett was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis four years ago and took part in the event on Sunday for the third year in a row, despite having lost some movement on the right side of his body.
The team dressed as children's cartoon characters The Smurfs to raise about $16,400.
"I'm just a normal bloke trying to do something. I couldn't ask anything more from my family and friends,'' Mr McTackett said.
"At the moment, I don't need too much help, but my mates know that at some point I might need it.''
Taking part for the first time were recently engaged couple Brad Wilbers, 31, and Catherine Stirk, 28, of Miranda. Their team "Ridge blokes and cooks'' raised more than $5000.
Mr Wilbers was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis this year but the determined Barden Ridge football player is not letting anything hold him back.
The team was organised by their friend, Leon Schwartz, 34, of Lugarno, who said the race was an emotional time and resulted in some sore legs afterwards. This group is already planning next year's event.
"We were all a bit nervous but really excited starting out. Afterwards it was very satisfying knowing we're doing our bit for the cause,'' Mr Wilbers said.
More than 500 Sutherland Shire residents and 350 St George residents took part in this year's event which raised a record $2.64 million for research into MS.
