Laser arrests

Sutherland police are yet to lay charges after arresting three youths for allegedly pointing a high-powered laser at traffic on Alfords Point Bridge early on Sunday. Police arrested the youths, all 16, of Padstow and Mortdale, on a track in the Georges River National Park at Padstow Heights. Sutherland police arrested the trio and seized a laser pointer after reports that a beam was coming from the riverbank of the park. An officer was taken by road ambulance to Sutherland hospital after tripping and dislocating two fingers during a chase to arrest the group. The three youths were released into the custody of their parents and investigations continue.

Knife alleged

A Wollongong man, 34, is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court next month after being charged with carrying a knife in public, Sutherland police said. Police said they confiscated a knife from him at Sutherland train station on February 6.

Hit-and-run

Police have urged the driver involved in a hit-and-run of a Penshurst teenager at Heathcote early last month to come forward. Police allege the youth, 17, broke his wrist when a car, described as a Holden Commodore, hit him at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Oliver Street on January 6. He told police the car stopped briefly before driving off. Sutherland police said the driver or any witnesses to the incident should contact police.

Armed robbery

A Rockdale man, 20, is due to face court next month charged with the armed robbery of a Rockdale convenience store. It is alleged two men robbed the West Botany Street business at knifepoint on Sunday about 9.50pm, St George police said. It is alleged they threatened an employee and stole cash. Detectives arrested a man at a Dulwich Hill home on Tuesday. He is due to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on April 3.

Training arrests

Hurstville police searched 19 people and made an arrest during a drug-dog training exercise at Hurstville train station on Tuesday, February 7. A Kingsgrove man, 44, was charged with possessing a prohibited drug after a search revealed he had cannabis. The training involved plain-clothed officers holding drug-training aids and positioning themselves at different areas within the train station. The exercise aimed to train the dogs by giving them realistic scenarios.
