QUESTIONS are being raised about the future management of Bexley Pool after the current long-term operator was dumped without warning while the community is still awaiting a report on the upgrades to the facility due almost a year ago.
Rockdale Council has appointed the YMCA to manage the pool in the meantime until tenders are called.
The matter was before Rockdale Council last night, see an updated story on that here later today.
More than 15 YMCA staff visited the pool on Tuesday to speak with staff and hand out flyers about its future management.
The flyer said the YMCA was "excited to announce the commencement of our management" of the swimming facility and was providing information about what the arrangement meant for employees.
Staff would be guided through the process by new managers.
Current operator Matthew Sanderson, of Pamstream Aquatic and Leisure Management, said it appeared there was not going to be a tender process, or if there was the result appeared to be already decided.
YMCA general manager Richard Price did not return calls yesterday.
Bexley Pool reference group community spokesman Mark Hanna said the council was now 12 months behind on the project and the community was still awaiting a report outlining concept design plans and costings for the relocation or refurbishment of the 50-metre outdoor pool, plus a new indoor heated 25-metre pool and program therapy pool.
"The tender process seems to have been pushed out," he said. "If this is the way they were going to do it, why wasn't the current operator kept on until the pool's future was decided? It's very odd."
