Prozac is a parrot's friend

27 Feb, 2009 06:25 PM
THE bird lady of Oyster Bay, Kris Stanley, has had some star treatment for her rare and colourful Eclectus parrot, Harry, who was developing a nasty habit of pulling out his feathers.

``He is such a beautiful bird and I was getting really worried about him,'' Kris said.

``And then Chris Brown came along.''

TV vet Chris is the compere of Bondi Vet screening on Channel Ten on Thursday nights.

``Dr Brown prescribed Prozac for Harry, which I think must be a first for television,'' Kris said.

Prozac is an antidepressant drug often used to treat conditions such as bulimia and anorexia in humans and feather plucking in parrots!

Harry is no stranger to television, having previously appeared on Burke's Backyard and Harry's Practice, and can be seen on Bondi Vet tonight (Thursday) on Channel Ten at 8pm.

Harry, with other colourful parrots, is also a popular visitor to retirement homes around Cronulla and St George along with owner Kris.
