Seniors receive fresh carers' options

THE world's largest home-care services provider, Home Instead Senior Care, is opening a franchise in Sutherland Shire.

Owner Michael McAviney said Home Instead Senior Care aims to help older people live independently in their own homes.

He said he expected to employ 20 local care givers within the next two months and up to 70 care givers in the next 12 months. They will be trained to provide non-medical services such as personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transport for appointments, shopping or errands, respite and convalescence care and dementia care in the early stages.

Mr McAviney said Home Instead Senior Cares services had proven popular with seniors who wanted to choose how many hours of care they needed and when it was provided.

"We believe there is a strong demand for our services here,'' Mr McAviney said.

"As someone who grew up in the area, I have a strong local knowledge that will help us build lasting relationships with our clients and grow our business.''
