Storytime proves a winner with kids

THESE children were among the first to take in the new surroundings during a Storytime session at Cronulla Library last week.

Storytime is one of the free children's services offered by Sutherland Shire libraries. Parents are encouraged to take part in the one-hour sessions, which include a story, song, film and craft.

Rhymetime sessions are also available for children aged six months to two years. The half-hour sessions include reading simple books and reciting rhymes and songs using puppets and other props.

Cronulla Library hopes to expand its children's services next year to include the four-week Lapsit program now offered at Sutherland and Engadine libraries. Up to 11 children aged six months to two years can attend the weekly sessions that expand on the Rhymetime program.

Cronulla Library features a toddler reading area and separate young-adult zone, complete with PlayStations.

Details: Storytime at Cronulla Library, Tuesdays, 4pm-5pm, and Fridays, 10.30am-11.30am.

Rhymetime at Cronulla Library, Wednesdays, 11am-11.30am.

Visit www.suthlib.nsw.gov.au for a full list of sessions and times at all Sutherland Shire libraries.
