AS FAR as building impressive contacts goes, Owen Cutbush has made a good start.
Along with other TAFE graduates, Mr Cutbush was thrown into the competitive creative industry this year.
But it was to his advantage that major NSW education provider — Sydney Institute — remembered the Kareela designer's skills.
So it got him on board to help create its latest campaign, which encourages students to enrol in higher education.
The advertisement, which promotes TAFE courses, also won an award for its modern and innovative concept.
Images from the campaign, which were put together into a cinematic commercial, featured on billboards, Sydney bus shelters and in newspapers.
Mr Cutbush, a freelance graphic designer, caught TAFE's eye when he won several design competitions during his studies.
"This was a paid job, so I was fortunate that they chose to use me for some of their projects back then," Mr Cutbush said.
"TAFE has been fantastic in teaching hands-on skills, rather than just from a textbook."
