St George and Sutherland Shire parents should contact their children's schools if they are unsure about arrangements during Thursday's 24-hour teachers' strike.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said by now public schools should have advised parents about alternative arrangements at their children's school during the industrial action.
It comes after the department proposed to give principals and school communities more of a say when selecting teachers.
The Federation of Parents and Citizens' Association of NSW has said it hopes there will be a breakthrough that will resolve the matter before the strike.
But the NSW Teachers Federation has confirmed that the planned rally outside the Minister for Education, John Della Bosca's office, in Sydney's CBD will go ahead tomorrow.
Rallies will also to be held across the state.
