Train derailment at Hurstville - Illawarra line services delayed

09 Feb, 2012 04:23 PM
Police and CityRail staff are working to fix a minor train derailment at Hurstville just before 5pm today.

No-one was injured.

An Ambulance Service of NSW spokesman said it was a minor incident at Penshurst with a south-bound train which had left Hurstville and was heading towards Cronulla.

‘‘The first couple of wheels were off the line,’’ he said.

‘‘No carriages tipped over.

‘‘They’re just taking passengers off now.’’

He said a small number of paramedics remained at the site.

CityRail advises that some trains are delayed on the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line in both directions.

Crews are assessing the situation and buses have been called in to get rail travellers to their destinations as soon as possible.

CityRail has also called in specialist equipment to fix the problem.

Police have asked drivers to take other trains past the affected site which could result in delays of at least 40 minutes.

See the CityRail Service Interruptions site or phone 131 500 for more updates..
