 Tree offer to end fight

Tree offer to end fight

08 Nov, 2009 03:00 AM
A MATURE palm tree will grace the backyard of John Nour's Sylvania Waters house courtesy of EnergyAustralia.

The tree is part of a battle that Mr Nour has been waging for close to two years after EnergyAustralia removed a mature palm tree from his nature strip because its closeness to power lines made it a safety hazard.

Mr Nour said the vehicle that moved the tree damaged his driveway's tiles.

The businessman rejected EnergyAustralia's initial offer of a small palm tree. He has now accepted the power provider's offer of a four-metre tall palm tree that will be planted in his backyard.

EnergyAustralia has responded to questions asked by the Leader in relation to the damaged driveway tiles.

"EnergyAustralia investigated the claim for damage to tiles when it was made, a couple of days after the work had been completed in April 2008,'' the spokeswoman said.

"It was immediately evident the damage had not been caused by the work as grass was growing through the cracks in the tiles, indicating they had been damaged for some time.''

Another of Mr Nour's concerns centred on a hole left in the nature strip after EnergyAustralia removed an electric substation from the site.

EnergyAustralia agreed to place the new substation at the same distance from the Nour house and fill in the hole.

Mr Nour said EnergyAustralia also knocked back his request to have tiling that previously surrounded the substation wholly replaced, rather than just a single row of tiles.
