Veterans help keep library shelves full

02 Jul, 2009 12:00 AM
SIX hundred and fifty books bought by Miranda RSL Sub-branch have given to schools students in Sutherland Shire.

The books were officially presented to school principals at a function held at Miranda RSL Club on June 18.

Almost 300 school students attended the RSL's Anzac Day ceremony and many of them placed a book on the memorial as a sign of remembrance.

Another 250 books were purchased by the RSL sub-branch. The books will be placed in the libraries of 19 schools in the RSL's area.

Miranda RSL Sub-branch member Mal Booby said the RSL was proud to contribute the books.

``We just feel that it's a very worthwhile thing,'' he said. ``We're supportive of our schools and are delighted to be involved.''
