Local mother of six wins gold medal at World Masters Games in the 10,000 meter distance race beating a Polish runner in the time of 40.44. Karen Stanley, 45 years of Lugarno, mother of six children aged 5 to 18 years ran the race of her life in the 45-49 year age group on Sunday, 11 October 2009 at Homebush Stadium with her children and husband cheering her on in the crowd. All were delighted with her amazing result after training for the event in the streets and parks of the Lugarno and the surrounding area! I'm sure many local residents would have observed the trim, attractive, blond pounding the pavement in preparation for the grueling event. Karen is a life long resident of the St George area and is a keen amateur runner. This was her first big international event. I am one of Karen's three proud sisters. Karen is far too modest to write about her achievement but has agreed for me to do so. I think this is a great story and one that might motivate all the mums who read your paper. Thanks - Janne Dimmer
