Welcome to the Dragon

09 Feb, 2012 10:59 PM
THE year of the Dragon was welcomed at Kogarah last week by an official ceremony in the town square.

The Australian Yau Kung Mun Martial Arts group performed lion and dragon dances for hundreds of residents and officials.

Mayor Nickolas Varvaris said the celebrations were "bigger and better" than the festivities last year.

"Our Chinese New Year celebrations have become one of the highlights of our events calendar," he said. "More and more people come each year to to be part of the fun."

Several groups took to the stage with oriental song and dance recitals.

Consul general of the People's Republic of China, Duan Jielong, was a guest of honour.
