THE importance of having an holistic approach to stress management will be explored at a workshop on Thursday.
The free event is a collaboration between Health by the Bay homeopath Antonietta Natoli and Rockdale Council.
Ms Natoli held a similar session last year and received such a positive response that a second workshop was booked.
She said participants would learn about a conscious way of managing stress and improving their quality of life.
"What most people don't understand about stress is that it is just one part of the puzzle," Ms Natoli said.
"Research tells us the critical part of dealing with stress is how the individual deals with stress — that is often overlooked."
The session would explore the "nuts and bolts" of dealing with stress, she said.
"We talk about work or the children being stressful and we externalise the stress but what actually occurs is a reaction to external stimulus," Ms Natoli said.
"It is not something out there that's attacking you.
"This [workshop] is a good start for people to think about how they can make a difference in their own lives and not rely on self-medicating whether it be drugs and alcohol or sleeping tablets," she said.
The workshop will be held at 1pm on Thursday, February 24, in the council chambers, 448 Princes Highway, Rockdale.
