FOR years Drive has been advocating pet-friendly cars and American Honda, it seems, has been listening.
From next month, the company will have a ``dog-friendly'' option for its American market, Element, giving secure dog accommodation in the cargo area courtesy of a ``car kennel'' made from nylon webbing.
What that means is that the family pet is properly restrained and, in the event of a frontal crash, has a lowered chance of injury and is unable to hurt vehicle occupants.
Pooch is kept happy with a soft floor, a 12-volt cooling fan and a spill-proof water bowl.
Other nice touches run to an extendable ramp that stows under the bed platform, washable rubber flooring, a dog pattern design for the rear seat cover and ``Dog Friendly'' graphics on the bodywork.
How much?
Try $995 as an option in the United States. Will a similar pack be offered here? Sadly, no, says a Honda Australia representative.
