CRONULLA could become a world skating destination if Sutherland Shire Council listens to skaters and builds a modern skate park.
Professional skater Adam Luxford grew up in Sutherland Shire and said the council needed to consult professional skaters and work on a good design.
"A skate park should be challenging, progressive, and good for beginners through to advanced skaters,'' he said.
"If something of a high standard was built in Cronulla it would be amazing, it would become a premier location and people would come from all over the world.''
"Big events like Bondi Bowl-A-Rama would be at Cronulla instead.''
Luxford said there was nothing in Australia that was equal to the standard of US skate park designers American Dreamland.
"The Americans really work with skate boarders, and their parks are incredible,'' he said.
Luxford said he spent three years working on designs for Engadine and Menai, but in the end they were completely changed.
"The council took advice from people who were inexperienced, and they turned out badly,'' he said.
"The spot at Wanda would be perfect; but if you are going to do it, do it right.''
