HEATHCOTE MP Lee Evans has called for the new state government body, Infrastructure NSW, to consider extending the F6 motorway "as a matter of urgency".
"The Illawarra and the people of Heathcote need a better way to get to work," he said during his inaugural speech in State Parliament last week.
"I have heard the people of Heathcote.
"The F6 extension needs to be, and should be considered as soon as possible."
Mr Evans also reaffirmed his support for speeding up traffic through Heathcote, establishing a fully manned police station at Helensburgh, making Dharawal state recreation area a national park, and protecting the water supply in the Woronora catchment from coal seam gas drilling.
He said his pledge to those who elected him was that he would consider everything that came before him on the basis of how it would first affect the people of Heathcote, then the people of NSW.
"It is traditional that in their inaugural speech new members lay out what they stand for.
"I believe that the community has the power.
"We as members of Parliament have just reached the pinnacle of our careers — we have just become the ultimate public servants."
Mr Evans, who lives at Loftus where he was born, said that he had "a passion — some might say a talent — for making things happen".
As president of the P & C at his sons' school, Endeavour Sports High, he had cut through seven years of "red tape" with the help of broadcaster Alan Jones to get much-needed sporting facilities through a federal government-private enterprise partnership.
In his speech Mr Evans outlined his previous careers, in which he started out as a chef and became a small businessman in the food industry.
His roles had included being the supply-purchasing manager for the athletes village at the Sydney Olympics.
Should the F6 be a priority?
