Finals score midway to March

THE Leader-Tynan Sportstar of the Year awards have passed the halfway point with the August winners announced.

All monthly winners are eligible for the annual awards to be announced at the Sportstar dinner next March.

Nominate your favourite sportstar in categories including disabled, school teams, support recognition and junior and senior teams plus the usual senior and junior categories on the Leader homepage.

SENIORS

Br ett Morris scored an incredible 25 tries from 25 matches for the Dragons. He finished the season as the NRL's leading try scorer and made his Australian debut after getting a place on the Kangaroos Four-Nations squad.

Luke Douglas continued his remarkable consecutive match streak by surpassing the Cronulla Sharks' record of Paul Green's (87 straight NRL games). Douglas, a prop, has not missed a match for Cronulla since making his debut in 2006.

Alison Lovat and April Letton, both 19, won selection for the inaugural Australian under-19 netball side. Letton, a former Heathcote High School student, and Lovat, a former St Ursula's College student, now hope to make the Australian under-21 squad.

JUNIORS

Ki rsty Mills won two gold medals and a silver at the NSW Road Cycling Championships in Port Macquarie. She won the road race and criterium and was second in the individual time trial championships.

Chloe Parsons, 7, of Caringbah won the Outer City Regional Championships at Five Dock in the 2B Junior division. She was the youngest competitor.

Casey Bacon of Miranda represented NSW at an international competition in Japan. She finished 12th. At the recent CHS State Championships for women's artistic gymnastics division A, Casey placed second overall with individual placings on bars, beam and floor.

Holly Tatum represented NSW gymnastics at an international competition in Japan. The NSW team came second with Holly picking up third place on vault and eighth overall.

Lauren Parsons of Gymea won gold at the CHS State and silver in the State All-Schools Cross Country Championships in the under-18 division. She also won gold at the State Long course at Nowra and the State Road Championships at Homebush. Lauren won best junior athlete at the Sutherland District Athletic Club where she has been for six years.

SENIOR TEAM

Sutherland Sharks football claimed the knockout Tiger Turf Cup competition with a thrilling 2-1 win against Manly United. Brad Boardman and Nick Stavroulakis scored the goals in the team's win. They also won the NSW Premier League grand final with a 4-1 victory against Marconi.

JUNIOR TEAM

NSW Academy of Gymnastics Level 7 team of Hannah Yarwood, Jacqui Rosenzweig, Saskia Anderson, Claire Esdaile and Toni Johnston, won the teams event at the NSW Championships at Homebush recently.
