SUTHERLAND Shire's Rodney Ellis won a spot in the second annual ju-jitsu Abu Dhabi Pro to be held in April.
Ellis, of Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy at Taren Point, took out the prestigious adult male under-83 kilogram purple/brown/black belt category at the Australasia trials at Endeavour Sports High on Sunday.
Female fighters were split in the under-63kg and over-63kg divisions and the men fought for seven spots: two in the white and blue belt under-73kg and over-73kg divisions and five in the purple, brown and black belt, under-65kg, under-74kg, under-83kg, under-92kg and over-92kg
Other qualifying trials will be held in South America, North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East for the chance to win up to $200,000.
TP Gym members at Caringbah had four youngsters take gold in the open children aged eight to 10 category.
They were Brandon Shimooka, Aaron Hawley, Jacob Evans and Luke Andrews.
