Wellings sets sights on Commonwealth Games

17 Feb, 2010 04:38 PM
SUTHERLAND'S national 10,000 metre champion Eloise Wellings performed a strong solo effort in the second half of the women's 5000-metre race at the Hobart edition of the Australian Athletics Tour to run a Commonwealth Games B qualifier.

It was a high-class victory as she beat national recordholder Benita Willis from Victoria by more than 12 seconds and dual Burnie Ten winner Lara Tamsett, running 15 minutes 35.37seconds.

"I want to run an A-qualifier and I get that chance in Melbourne on March 4 to better the 15min 20sec standard,'' Wellings said.

Her personal best is 14min 54sec set in 2006.
