CRONULLA Sharks are expected to announce they have signed bullocking Parramatta outside back Taulima Tautai, bringing to five the number of players the club have bought from the resurgent Eels for 2010.
First grade forward Broderick Wright, winger Nathan Gardiner, half Albert Kelly and forward Rodney Moefaauo are the other Eels coming to Woolooware in the off season.
Rookie of the year last season, Tautai has played less than half the 2009 season in first grade and since returning from injury, has not been able to grab back a spot in the winning Eels NRL side, featuring the likes of Jarryd Hayne, Krisnan Inu and Eric Grothe in the back line.
Given the fact the Sharks Leagues Club grant to the football club has been cut to $750,000, Stuart and his staff have bought soundly, with their major signings for 2010 being Manly's Adam Cuthbertson, Tigers' utility John Morris, Penrith rake Paul Aiton and Wright, along with giant Gold Coast forward Siosaia Vave.
The half a dozen young players Stuart was forced to blood in his NRL side this season will be more experienced, too. And the club will be hoping they don't suffer anything like the season they've just endured, with three stars lost for misdemeanors and with injuries, an entire side on the sideline.
The Sharks have made no changes to the team which played well but was beaten by 10 points by top four side Gold Coast Titans, for Sunday's away match against Manly. The Sea Eagles have been bolstered by the return of fullback Brett Stewart, and the Sharks will again rely on their forward pack, led by representatives Paul Gallen and Anthony Tupou.
Meanwhile young prop Johnny Mannah, missing since last month after doctors found a ``hot spot'' on a cracked vertebrae, through scans, was awaiting news about what form of lymphoma he had contracted.
A 3pm Sunday A grade game between De La Salle and Como-Jannali at Toyota Stadium will highlight this weekend's grand finals for the larger Cronulla Sutherland Junior Rugby League, and St George district. Como is aiming for three straight premierships, after De La Salle's 2006 win, with De La Salle winning both games against Como this season. Cronulla-Caringbah have 12 teams in grand finals.
