The Roosters led 12-6 at half-time before a Jamie Soward led second stanza saw the home side cruise to a 34-12 victory.

While Cronulla travelled to Townsville to face North Queensland.

Minus Origin reps Trent Barrett and Paul Gallen, Cronulla again tried hard but the class of Cowboys Matt Bowen and Johnathan Thurston proved decisive in the end.

Despite a rare nil-all half-time score, North Queensland finished the match 24-4 victors.
