WATERSKIERS from the region stamped their class by winning the top men's and women's events at the highly-acclaimed Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic on the Hawkesbury River last weekend.
Peter Procter, of Cronulla, won the superclass and finished first overall, combining with Jason Walmsley on his boat Hellrazor at an average speed of 172 kilometres per hour.
Their time of 38:57 was just four seconds slower than the 112-kilometre race record. It was Procter's third consecutive title and his fourth overall.
"It was really competitive race for the first 30 to 40 kilometres, so we knew we had a good time going," Procter said. His wife Cara raced with Leanne Campbell, of Sylvania. They won the open women's class, racing at 156km/h. For Campbell, it was her fifth victory, having won the race in 1991-93 and 1995.
"It's our biggest race and it's always been very special to me," Campbell said. "It's a home ground for us because we do all our social skiing there and my driver Nick Feros is a world-class driver, so that helps."
Kelsey Feros, of Sylvania Waters, won the under-19 women's event and Campbell's daughter Abby Burge finished second in the under-10 race.
Meanwhile, Campbell retained her top place in the formula two Australian water-ski racing championships after winning round three and finishing second in round four recently.
Procter also finished first and second in the formula one class at the Australian championships and is now fourth overall.
